雖然發言有所爭議，但俄羅斯「撐竿跳女王」Yelena Isinbayeva將會擔任青年奧運的形象大使，即便之前有傳聞她可能失去這項身份。

八月的田徑世錦賽，Isinbayeva曾說反對抵制索契冬運，並表示俄羅斯只是反對宣傳同性戀關係，並未歧視，希望外界尊重該國法律。

當時Isinbayeva進一步指出，俄羅斯法律並干涉個人配偶性別的選擇，她們國家的選手到其他國家也是會遵守當地的法律。

不過這番言論還是被解讀為歧視同性戀，她表示用英文回答可能意思被誤解，她說自己不贊成歧視同性戀，那有為奧林匹克憲章，但選手當別的國家比賽就應遵守當地法律。

後來一度傳出她有可能失去青奧形象大使的身份，前任IOC（國際奧會）Jacques Rogge說可能會重新考慮她的身份，不過今天IOC發言人Andrew Mitchell 表示，Isinbayeva已經澄清過自己反歧視的立場。
