德國實力堅強，還很會先聲奪人，這場4球輕取葡萄牙的戰役，是他們在近四屆世界盃小組賽首戰的第20分，且先進球幾乎就立於不敗之地。

2002年日韓世界盃，德國在小組賽碰上沙烏地阿拉伯，以8：0痛宰對方，4年後做為世界盃東道主，以4：2擊敗小組賽首場對手哥斯大黎加。

而4年前在南非，德國首戰遇上澳洲，4：0旗開得勝，這4場小組開幕賽只丟了2球，一共進20球，加上擊敗葡萄牙這場，4戰進球數至少4球。

且從2011年3月開始，德國在國際賽中，先進球就立於不敗的場次有40場，另外這4場世界盃首戰，也都由德國先進球。

對葡萄牙演出帽子戲碼的Thomas Müller，是這4場勝仗中，第二位演出帽子戲法的球員，前一位是Miroslav Klose，於對沙烏地阿拉伯一役所創，這次也是德國國家隊一員。

4球落敗的葡萄牙，也吞下隊史在世界盃丟球數最多的一場敗仗。
