【國際中心／綜合外電報導】美國八大網路巨頭9日聯名致信總統歐巴馬及國會，要求改革政府監控活動。包括美國在線、蘋果、臉書、谷歌、微軟、linkedin、推特和雅虎。他們在公開信中要求美國政府帶頭做出改革，確保政府監控活動受到法律的明確限制，保持透明度，並接受獨立監督。這已經他們不是第一次公開請願，10月底，蘋果、谷歌、微軟、雅虎、臉書和美國在線等六大互聯網公司曾聯名致信國會參議院，要求政府加強對監控活動的適當監督和問責，加強隱私保護。

八家公司在9日發表的公開信中稱，網際網路公司的工作重點是保護用戶個資安全，使用最新的加密技術，防止未經授權的政府監控，公開信提出了政府監控活動的5大原則，包括限制政府收集網路用戶信息的權力，引入監督和問責機制，允許企業發佈政府監控要求的數量和類型，政府應尊重資訊的自由流通、允許用戶信息存儲在不同國家，建立一個透明框架來管理合法的跨國信息索取請求。
