地方政府照顧新住民及其子女有成，副總統吳敦義上午出席移民署舉辦的活動時表示，火炬計畫雖然經費不多，但在許多民間團體和地方政府的熱情支持下，不僅讓新台灣之子可擁有更好教育，也讓新移民無後顧之憂; 在新住民火炬計畫中，共有新北市、彰化縣、台中市、台南市、台北市、桃園縣、嘉義市、金門縣等8縣市，以及42所學校獲得績優表揚。
