隨著全世界人口越來越多全球車輛的總數可說是隨著持續向上攀升，而交通意外事故發生的機率也是跟著日益增多的交通流量越來越高；根據研究，多數意外事故有90%都是屬於駕駛的錯誤判斷以及分心導致，其中又以將近75%的交通意外事故，發生於車輛時速低於30km/h的情形下發生，這也催生出歐盟在去年時宣佈不管是在歐洲生產或是販售的車款皆必須配置有主動煞車輔助系統（Automatic Emergency Braking；AEB），否則皆無法取得EuroNCAP最高五顆星的安全評等。
