過去，出版社是有可能賺大錢的。現在，出版社能活得下去就算不錯。

有一天接受張大春節目訪問，他跟我說：沒問題的，出版還是可以做，你可以找我老婆，她可以給你一些意見。

我一直沒去找，一方面忙著書店工程，一方面我還始終停留在，出版作為一種理想的傳統價值裡。

其實，我也很想走出來。只是，有一天在出版完殷海光的「思想與方法」後，我拿出紙筆和計算機，統計一下如果全部賣完可以獲利多少，答案是三萬八千元。
    
於是，我就決定放棄了，不是放棄出版，而是放棄獲利。這就像當初決定在鄉下開書店，面臨叫不到貨的困境，突然頓悟：之所以進不到書，是因為鄉下沒有市場，既然沒有市場，再怎麼苦苦追求市場，終究痛苦一場。想通這點，就雲濶天青。

我只是告訴自己：如果能力有限，就腳步慢一點，少做一點，量力而為。

結果，不知幸或不幸，兩個月不到，我們又要再出一本新書了，而且看來還是屬於不符市場走向的書。

不過，我很高興水牛出了黃怡這本書。下午我在灰塵與噪音齊飛的工地，主編捧著這本綠色封面的書走到面前：這可是熱呼呼剛從印刷廠拿回來的書喔！看得出他的喜悅，通常這是編輯最快樂的一刻，不在書以後賣得如何，而在剛印出來這一刻。就像每一個父母面對小孩出世那一刻，是最充滿興奮期待的。

「綠色先行者—生態運動關鍵12人」，是講生態的故事，也是講人的故事。生態與環境、運動與困境，當然是嚴肅的事。但是人的想像與冒險，每一個人、每一段生命的故事，都是如此動人的詩篇。夜晚，我翻閱新書，讀到最後一篇講「史懷哲」。

三十歲的史懷哲，即使已經拿到哲學博士學位，卻決定改念醫學。他的決定不是為了賺錢，是決心到非洲幫助需要幫助的人，他認為人們說太多，卻做太少。學醫，是最具體能幫助人的；非洲，是全世界最需要醫師的。

於是，從38歲到90歲，史懷哲13度前往非洲，前後待了36年。他一生最精華的歲月，都在非洲。他死後夫妻兩人安葬在非洲，依照他的囑咐，棺材裡放了一頂他平常戴的老帽子，和一小袋米，那是他散步時用來撒着餵小雞的。

這些生命故事，在黃怡筆下娓娓道來，即使相隔近半世紀，依然如此憾動人。你不覺得，面對每天如此紛亂的社會、變動的人心，「知識」與「典範」是如此欠缺而重要。

【簡嘉宏╱綜合外電報導】「我深深的覺得我不適應議長夫人這個身份」，英國下議院議長夫人莎莉(Sally Bercow)日前接受媒體訪問時，做出上述表示，還語出驚人的說，如果丈夫伯考（John Bercow）知道有一天會當上議長，「絕對不會把我娶回去」。
 
根據英國《每日郵報》的報導，外型出色的英國下議院議長夫人莎莉對媒體自承，她十分厭倦成為鎂光燈追逐的焦點，已是3個孩子母親的莎莉目前與丈夫住在美輪美奐的議長官邸，希望遠離英國政治圈，回歸平靜恬適、雲淡風清的「小人物生活」（a life of anonymity）。莎莉2011年接受雜誌專訪時，一張披著白色床單入鏡的照片曾引發英國輿論譁然，也曾被拍到上計程車後喝醉的糗態。

【王烱華／台北報導】立委蔡煌瑯今在立院國防委員會質詢指出，政府機關使用中國華為的行動網卡，包括總統府、調查局都有，顯示政府機關絲毫沒有警覺心。國安局長蔡得勝表示，國安局不贊成政府機關使用華為產品。

立法院外交國防委員會上午聽取「國安局2014年度施政計畫及收支預算案報告」時，蔡煌瑯提出近一年來各政府單位採購中國華為公司通信產品的統計表，其中，以調查局採購華為行動網卡124組最多，總統府也採購6組行動網卡，交通部則是採購20部華為的手機，另陸委會原有一組華為行動網卡，但發現是華為的網卡後已立即自動停用。
